Working with a gifted student can be both a joy and a frustration. Any teacher that has such a student in her/his class should be knowledgeable very well about this case, and should be able to deal with it because as you said a gifted student doesn't enjoy all kinds of activities and like to do challenging ones and if they are not so he/she gets bored and may make fun of his friends. Thus the effective instruction of gifted students requires a gifted teacher. This does not mean that the teacher has to be smarter, more talented or more able than the students. It means that the teacher must be able to teach in a gifted and intuitive manner. And working with gifted students can require classroom and curriculum modifications and this will help the teacher very well.
ReplyDeleteOff course ,to deal with a gifted students is not easy but you can make the class for them either attractive nor boring ,you can create many activities which is suitable for them without wasting your time , in this way you keep them motivated and you continue your work with other students.
ReplyDeleteMany teachers would agree that gifted students show advanced development when compared to their peers. These students are often characterized by an advanced rate of learning, quality of thinking or capacity for remarkably high standards of achievement compared to students of the same age. Therefore the gifted students might be described as having high potential. As a teacher I could invest having gifted students in my classroom by asking them to serve as tutors for students who are less achievable. Gifted students think and learn differently than other students so asking them to serve as tutors can be an interesting experience for all parties involved.
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand the meaning of Gifted students in the classroom. Although they aren't that multiple but their presence is worth three students and even more. The existence of such talents urges us to enter class since they give you a moral to start teaching. Sometimes, I feel stuck because I can't keep them busy or differentiate them from their friends. It is important to keep up to their levels and work on their gifts instead of suppressing them.
ReplyDeletePresence of gifted students may be a big problem for some teachers who don't know how to deal with them. Those students should have additional support from teachers and not criticizing them negatively to get them down. Their abilities to finish their task easily could be used by teacher in helping their friends to have a better performance and achievement instead of criticizing others or disrupting the class when they feel bored.
ReplyDeleteGifted students can be frustrating for some teachers. Teachers should accommodate the students with learning difficulties or disabilities as well as gifted students that require from the teachers great attention. These students require classroom modifications to meet their needs and many curricular attempts to accommodate their abilities and ensure they used these abilities to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteThe problem that teachers face with gifted students is how to deal with them in such a way to not get them down nor making them like they are in a status above their friends, dominating others. Dealing with them is somehow difficult because these students usually criticize others, Dominate in groups, finish assignments quickly, easily board and make lots of disruption but on the other side they are creative, have high abilities and high level of thinking, they have the ability to learn quickly...
ReplyDeleteTherefore the teacher should be fair while treating these students, the teacher can allow them to experiment with higher level even though it may be beyond their class, the teacher shouldn't limit them, the teacher can ask these students to help their peers. And as you said Farah the teacher should be always updating her repertoire of teaching strategies to match the gifted students' needs.
